I really love thinking outside the box. This next inspiration shoot really pushed me outside of the ‘typical’ style I work with. Jonnie reached out to me to see if I would be interested in working with her and Garrett (husband & wife photographers; aka the perfect duo) on this super edgy and gritty inspiration shoot.
The idea all started with this antique wedding dress that ran in Garrett’s family. The dress was a 100 year old wedding dress from Garrett’s great great grandmother. Originally dates back to 1915 – how cool is that? When you think of an antique wedding dress, some might think ‘rustic’, or more of a ‘vintage’ style concept. But not Jonnie & Garrett. They brought to me some really great inspiration pictures to work with that included skulls, cactus, tribal patterns, as well as turquoise and silver jewelry. This was such a daring concept and I could not wait to get to work on styling for this one.
The color palate was influenced by the desert itself, along with blue found in turquoise stones. We really wanted to bring everything together to create a style that hasn’t been done before. We focussed on using natural elements for inspiration, like the animal skulls and the ‘dry’ plants that were created for the floral decor.
Jonnie & Garrett are two wonderful and adventurous photographers who are not afraid to push the limits; you can see this in their work. They took their free-spirits and wanted to really capture this in the photoshoot. If you ask me, I think they totally accomplished their mission.
